What kind of product photography can we do?

We can do white background images, styled shots, photos on the body, or a combination of all of these. Our day will also cover editing, so your photos are ready to use!

What can I do with the photos we take during our day?

Anything! They are yours to use any way you like - on your website and product pages, your blog and social media, and in emails and print marketing. (Like postcards, catalogs, lookbooks, and line sheets.) They are your images and you can use them any way you like to promote your business!  

Where can we shoot?

In your home, studio, or at local locations. Depending on your goals, we can work on refining your studio set-up or venture out into the world for in-situ photography. (Or even a little of both!) If you are concerned that your home or studio won’t work, I suggest coming to my studio in Central PA where I have lights, blank walls, interesting spaces, and plenty of props, plants, and backdrops!  

How long will our day last?

Plan on about six hours, with a break for lunch. In that time, we'll spend about four hours shooting and two hours editing. This amount of time means we can also shoot in up to two separate locations, as long as travel time between them is no more than 30 minutes. 

How many pieces can I expect to shoot in one day?

It depends on the types of photos we take and how complicated they are. For basic shots on a simple background, we could easily shoot twenty to thirty pieces in one day. For more complex set-ups or shots with a model, it’s more likely to be ten to twenty. But the beauty of this process is that I walk you through the shoot and teach you my tricks along the way, so you can recreate the set-up and styling on your own at any time afterward!

Is this best for wearables, 2D art, 3D art, or handmade products?

When it comes to product photography, my specialties are 3D products and wearables, including jewelry. That means if you're a jeweler, metalsmith, textile artist, potter, ceramic artist, or woodworker, we're a great fit! I also have lots of experience photographing small 2D products, including prints, small paintings, and stationery.

Do I need my own camera or equipment?

No! I will bring cameras, tripods, and lighting. But you are more than welcome to bring your own as well, so that I can help you learn how to use it. This could be a professional camera or your smartphone!

What about props, backgrounds, and set-ups?

After you pay the initial deposit, we'll hop on a call to plan your photo day. From there, we'll discuss any props, background, and set-up you might require. For shoots in my studio or within driving distance, I'm happy to bring lots of props and backgrounds. If I'm flying to your studio, it's a little more limited and I may ask you to source a few things in advance. But don't stress! I'm a fan of cheap and low-cost backgrounds and props, so you won't be asked to spend massive amounts of money building a set-up! 

What if I want someone else to model my work?

That's absolutely possible! I recommend bringing in a friend or family member who is comfortable behind the camera, but we can also discuss options for hiring someone when we plan your shoot! I've also helped many women get comfortable modeling their own products (after all, you're the most convenient model you have) and we can do that as part of your shoot! I'm even happy to model myself, to show you exactly how I photograph products on myself!

What about make-up and styling?

If you're planning on photographing your work on a person (you, me, or someone else) we'll discuss make-up and styling in advance and come up with a plan!

How quickly will my session be scheduled?

That depends on location! For photoshoots in my studio or for those in driving distance of my studio (Northeast and Mid-Atlantic), I’ll make every effort to schedule them within 4-6 weeks of your deposit. For locations that require me to fly, it could be as long as 3-4 months from when you pay your deposit to when we schedule your session. Due to more limited availability, it may take longer to schedule weekend sessions.

Is my deposit refundable?

Yes! If we meet virtually and determine it’s not a good fit or the timing and schedule doesn’t work, I’ll refund your deposit, no questions asked!

When is my balance due?

50% of the balance is required in order to confirm a date and schedule travel. (Ideally at least 3 weeks out from our scheduled shoot, but longer if flying is required.) The total balance for the photo day is due one week before our scheduled day.

Is there a payment plan option?

Yes! As long as the balance is paid one week prior to our session, you can opt to pay in installments!

Can I split the photo day with another artist or maker?

Yes! If you'd like to split the cost, we can accommodate up to three artists or makers in a single photo day. Just keep in mind that you won't get as many photos at the end of the day because time will be split. There is a $100 charge per additional person to account for extra planning. If you choose to share your day, I recommend picking people with a comparable aesthetic so that you can share props, styling, and set-ups.
